In this episode, doctors Lisa and Sara talk to Dr Tim Dalton, a GP in Wigan, and Chair of the Greater Manchester General Practice Provider Board about how general practice is funded.
They cover how general practice is different from other NHS settings, the sources of income in general practice and the flow of money through the system, including the network contract Direct Enhanced Service (DES), Local Enhanced Service (LES) and the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF). They also discuss the place of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and GP Federations, as well as different types of GP contracts and what each of them means*.Â
*NB the podcast episode was recorded in March 2024, just before the new contract details were released and so doesn’t contain the specifics of the new contract.
