Health and wellbeing relates to personal dignity, physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Good wellbeing is when we are able to be at our best, both at work and home. It is personal to the individual and we all need something different to maintain good wellbeing for ourselves.
Emotional wellbeing is the ability to produce positive emotions, moods, thoughts, and feelings, and adapt when confronted with adversity and stressful situations. Emotional wellbeing allows us to focus on the positive, and manage the negative emotions and feelings we may have in a given situation.
Health and wellbeing can be described as the achievement and maintenance of physical fitness and mental stability. This is a positive definition of health and wellbeing.
Physical health and mental wellbeing are interlinked, and it is important we understand good physical health contributes to good mental wellbeing, and vice versa.
Our experience and perception of our mental and physical health is the biggest single factor that explains, on average, how we rate our wellbeing.
Good health is about the mind as well as the body – feeling physically fit, and feeling good about ourselves means we can go and achieve more of the things we want to do in life.
The best way to stay healthy – physically and mentally – is by learning how to take care of ourselves, and about the support available to help with any health problem you might have.
