New appraisal webinar will help general practice meet BeCCoR requirements

Summary

A new webinar to help general practice managers conduct effective appraisals and meet Beyond Core Contract (BeCCoR) requirements.

The webinar aims to support practice managers and team leaders to carry out effective appraisals.

It will also help practices to achieve the essential element of the Beyond Core Contract (BeCCoR) 2026/27, to ensure all staff receive an annual appraisal with an agreed personal development plan and protected learning time, under the General Practice Quality and Resilience framework.

The session will look at the whole appraisal process, from preparing for the meeting through to agreeing objectives and following up afterwards.

It will explore how to make appraisals more than a ‘tick-box’ exercise, and will cover the following:

  • Preparing for and structuring an effective appraisal
  • The responsibilities of both the appraiser and appraisee
  • Having meaningful conversations and providing constructive feedback
  • Recognising achievements and addressing areas for improvement
  • Setting clear and achievable SMART objectives
  • Supporting staff development, wellbeing and engagement
  • Recording and following up agreed actions
  • Understanding how effective appraisal contributes to good leadership, staff performance and CQC Well-Led expectations

Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences, discuss common challenges and consider how appraisals can be used positively within their GP practice.

The webinar will be hosted by experienced manager and trainer, Clare Richardson.

The webinar is available on two dates in September and November:

The webinar has been organised by Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board’s GP Excellence programme.
