Additional resources to help combat bullying and harassment in the workplace

Summary

Health and care workers’ real-life scenarios are portrayed in videos aimed at raising awareness of inappropriate behaviour.

A training package to help NHS workers address bullying and harassment in the workplace has been updated to include helpful guidance for facilitators.

The North West Civility and Respect Video Learning Resources were produced by NHS North West in conjunction with Wake the Beast theatre company, to support staff training and awareness, and help eradicate inappropriate and uncivil behaviour at work.

The original five videos – using real-life scenarios set in a hospital, GP practice, ambulance sector and community care home – have been expanded to include two additional examples of inappropriate behaviour and practical ways of dealing with it.

The package now contains the video ‘Try Harder’ which focuses on trainees and students in the workplace, and ‘Crossing the Line’ which highlights the types of sexually inappropriate behaviour faced by colleagues.

Each video now has accompanying guidance to help facilitators deliver the training, with a simple checklist to help you plan the sessions, interactive exercises and questions to pose to the group.

The seven videos were produced with the help of more than 50 health and care colleagues who were happy for their experiences to be used as examples. The scenarios are performed by actors.

The videos and accompanying resources are included in a dedicated Flipbook, as well as being available on the FutureNHS platform, which requires you to sign in.
