PCB team member joins national health and social care champion

Summary

Dr Joanna Bircher has been appointed to the Healthwatch England Committee.

A Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board (GMPCB) delivery team member will share her knowledge and expertise as a long-standing GP as part of the Healthwatch England Committee.

Dr Joanna Bircher has recently been appointed to the board of the national health and social care champion, following a rigorous application and interview process.

She will continue in her PCB role as clinical director for the GP Excellence Programme and sees this as an opportunity to apply her experience of improving patient care to the aims and objectives of Healthwatch England.

This additional role will also complement the work of the PCB in involving its population with the delivery and improvement of primary care services.

Dr Bircher completed her medical training in the late 1990s and has since become an advocate for improving the quality of care provided by GPs and their teams within Greater Manchester.

She remains a practising GP in Tameside and works closely with the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) and the Health Foundation.

Dr Bircher said: “I’m really excited to be playing a part on strengthening the voice of patients in the delivery and improvement of health and care, as part of the board at Healthwatch England.”
