Progressing PCNs – programme impact and evaluation

Summary

NHS Confederation final report on leadership development programme for PCNs.

A final impact and evaluation report of the Greater Manchester PCN leadership programme has been published by the NHS Confederation.

A summary of the programme, Progressing PCNs, is available on the NHS Confederation website.

Progressing PCNs was commissioned by the PCB and delivered by the NHS Confederation between September 2023 and February 2024.

It was designed to support clinical directors and PCN managers with developing their leadership skills, and was a mixture of online and face-to-face workshops.

The course content included specific tools to help participants improve skills such as conflict resolution, leadership confidence, self-awareness and collaboration.

In total, 52 colleagues across 24 PCNs took part in the programme.

Lisa Stack, Programme Manager at GMPCB, said: “We co-designed the leadership programme with the NHS Confederation to strengthen individual and collective leadership across Greater Manchester’s PCNs.

“By having the PCN Clinical Director and Manager attend together, we deepened their understanding of themselves as leaders, how they lead their teams and what that means when leading within a system.

“The programme has been a huge success, with many participants relaying how they feel more able to fulfil their leadership role. The programme has also heightened their awareness of the PCN’s role within the community, inspiring many to pursue deeper system leadership skills in the future.”

The NHS Confederation’s summary of the programme includes details of the programme outcomes, course content, programme impact and evaluation, plus feedback from some participants.
