Provider Collaboratives in the new operating model for GM

Summary

Following recommendations for a new GM operating model, you may see us referred to as the GM Primary Care Provider Collaborative.

However, we will retain our recently developed PCB brand which has a distinctive look and feel to represent the four disciplines of primary care.

Following an independent leadership and governance review (by Carnall Farrar), a new operating model for the GM system has been agreed.

As a result, NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care will make specific improvements to the way it works with localities, Greater Manchester, health and care providers and other partners to ensure we all deliver the best for our residents.

They have pledged the following:

  • Being much more explicit about how their vision and missions translate into how we are organised as a system to ensure we deliver a high level of ambition for our residents
  • Being much clearer about where decisions sit, and under what authority key meetings take place
  • A clearer description of the roles of each partner in the system. This is explicit about the role of NHS Greater Manchester, the role and remit of Locality Boards and Place Based Leads, the focus and contribution of provider collaboratives, and the role of the Integrated Care Partnership
  • A clear description of how every function of the Integrated Care System is discharged and who is responsible for what

This should mean greater clarity about roles and responsibilities for the workforce, but the imperative of collaboration and working across systems remains the same, building on decades of collaboration across public services and with VCSE partners.

It should also mean that partners are clearer on who does what in our new integrated care system and what people can expect of each other. Plus, these changes will enable us to address our financial deficit and this will be a priority for the integrated care system over the coming months.

This process is ongoing and Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board (GMPCB) will represent the interests of providers during this time. We are a significant partner in the system and we represent all primary care providers as a ‘provider collaboration’.

As a result of the new operating model recommendations, you may see us referred to as the GM Primary Care Provider Collaborative.

However, we will retain our recently developed PCB brand which has a distinctive look and feel to represent the four disciplines of primary care.
