Support available for community pharmacists to gain independent prescribing qualification

Summary

Community pharmacists can apply for support from the North-West Teach and Treat programme.

Community pharmacists based in Greater Manchester who wish to train as an Independent Prescriber (IP) are invited to apply for support from the North-West Teach and Treat programme.

This NHS England funded initiative aims to support community pharmacists who have struggled to secure a suitable Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP), or clinical placement environment, to gain their non-medical prescribing (NMP) qualification by providing free matching to DPP supervisors.

The scheme also provides access to clinical prescribing environments with national funding to support NMP course fees where available.

Community pharmacists who are interested in gaining their IP qualification in the next few months should complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form.

The deadline for receipt of EOIs is 11.59pm on Monday, 2 November, 2026.

Applications will be scored against set criteria. All applicants will receive an outcome via email approximately four to six weeks after the closing date.

If capacity remains, further EOI rounds will be opened.
