Wigan GP practice scoops Employer of the Year at GM Champions Awards

Summary

Hawkley Brook Medical Practice has won Employer of the Year at the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champions Awards.

The award recognises an employer that has gone the extra mile to improve workplace practices for the benefit of their workforce.

Hawkley Brook Medical Practice has become the first organisation to win Employer of the Year at the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champions Awards in this newly created category for 2023.

The Wigan based GP practice was selected for its commitment to the values of wellbeing, career development and inclusion and in recognition of the practice becoming the first health and care organisation to become a member of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter.

Staff from the practice were presented with the award at a ceremony held on 13 July at the National Football Museum, hosted by Manchester born TV presenter, Michelle Ackerley, to celebrate the winners.

Organised by NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care, the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champions Awards celebrate the amazing contributions from the whole health and care workforce across Greater Manchester.

With 13 categories, including Leadership Champion, Volunteer Champion and two new categories for 2023 – Lifetime Achievement Award and Employer of the Year, this year’s awards saw a record number of nominations with just over 500 in total.

Dr Nikesh Vallabh, GP Partner at Hawkley Brook Medical Practice, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won Employer of the Year at the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champions Awards.

“It recognises all the hard work we have put in to become the first healthcare organisation in Greater Manchester to achieve the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter and our commitment to making Hawkley Brook a welcoming and supportive place to work.

“We have an amazing team in place and we have the tools to develop them, retain them and make sure that together we can deliver great patient care.”
