Bolton GP Federation leads the way in employment excellence

Summary

Bolton GP Federation has become the first federation in Greater Manchester to achieve member status of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter.

Bolton GP Federation is among the latest list of organisations to achieve member status of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter (GEC). In a short video from John Herring, board member of the charter and director of organisational development and culture at NHS Greater Manchester, he congratulates new members on their hard work in supporting the movement to the region becoming one of employment excellence.

To achieve member status, employers must demonstrate employment excellence in seven specific characteristics, as defined by the GEC. These are: secure work; flexible work; pay; engagement and voice; recruitment; people management; and health and wellbeing.

Michael Smith, chief officer at Bolton GP Federation, said: “Our commitment to good employment applies to all our staff, regardless of how much or how often they work for us. We firmly believe in supporting our staff, treating them well and having a good all-round employment offer, including salary, terms and conditions, employee voice, recognition and engagement, because we know this is a key factor in delivering the level and quality of services the people of Bolton deserve.

“We are incredibly proud to be the first federation in Greater Manchester to have achieved this charter and are sharing our learning with our fellow federations to encourage them along the journey.”

To formally mark the federation’s GEC membership, Sue Higson, quality and governance lead at Bolton GP Federation, was presented with a plaque at the recent GM Workforce Summit by Janet Wilkinson, chief people officer at NHS Greater Manchester.
