A new manifesto sets out how community pharmacy can support more people towards better health
Primary care colleagues are encouraged to read and engage with a manifesto for community pharmacy in Greater Manchester.
Community Pharmacy Greater Manchester (CPGM) has outlined its vision for the future, in conjunction with the Community Pharmacy Provider Board (CPPB).
The manifesto sets out how – with the correct resources and influence – community pharmacy can help to improve population health and ease pressure on the wider health and care system.
The document highlights the important role community pharmacy currently plays in the system, and how it is well positioned to provide wider support that will help residents live well via some priority areas:
- Expanding minor illness support
- Preventing ill health (CVD and obesity)
- Delivering a broader range of vaccinations
- Supporting long-term conditions
Community pharmacy is already involved in the Greater Manchester Live Well programme and the government’s Neighbourhood Health Framework and works with other primary care providers.
The manifesto has been shared with various partners, including general practice, dentistry and optometry colleagues, local authorities, MPs and NHS Greater Manchester, who are urged to consider the potential of community pharmacy in the future planning of health provision.
CPGM is the statutory organisation representing community pharmacies in the region and CPPB is a sub-board of the Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board. The manifesto and supporting documents are all available on the CPGM website.
