Dedicated resources for general practice in the event of a critical incident

Summary

A series of webinars and training videos will help practices prepare.

A dedicated package of support is available for GP practices to help prepare for a critical incident.

A series of free resources and webinars has been curated and distributed to practices to support them with their training and development.

The resource package is designed to help improve their understanding and confidence in dealing with a serious event that impacts the safety and security of staff and their business.

The package has been created by the GP Excellence programme, in partnership with NHS Greater Manchester, and includes a number of pre-bookable webinars over the next few months:

Participants on the Being Well: Leadership Training Programme are required to attend both Sessions 1 and 2 to complete the course. More course details are on the PCB website.

The package also contains several pre-recorded training videos, for people unable to attend a live session. These are available on the PCB YouTube channel.

There is also a handy Workforce Wellbeing Support poster, which contains details of free and confidential resources for healthcare professionals, plus a link to health and wellbeing support via the PCB’s online workforce hub.

The dedicated support package was developed following an attack on Crumpsall Synagogue in October 2025.

General practice colleagues highlighted concerns about rising community tensions and increasing levels of abuse toward staff.

A working group, involving NHS GM and Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board (PCB) was set up to review how the GP Excellence programme could enhance its support to practices and address some of those concerns.

If you require further information or support, please email the team: gm.gpexcellence@nhs.net

The resources will be regularly reviewed.
