Dental Provider Board highlighted in national report

Summary

Case study explains how the board works with NHS GM to influence and improve dental services.

The work of Greater Manchester Dental Provider Board (DPB) is mentioned in a national report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The state of health care and adult social care in England 2023/24 was published by the CQC at the end of October and features examples of good and outstanding care, as well as highlighting where care needs to improve.

The report includes a chapter on primary care, and specifically a section on improving access to dental care.

Greater Manchester Dental Provider Board is highlighted as a positive example of how it contributes to and influences Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board (ICB), known as NHS Greater Manchester.

The case study reads: “At Greater Manchester ICB, three members of the dental provider board attend twice weekly meetings held by the primary care board. This means that primary care dentistry is well represented, not only in discussing dental service provision, but also when considering wider health issues, such as primary care pressures and clinical effectiveness.”

The report also describes how the GM Dental Quality Access Scheme has increased access to dental appointments and enabled the treatment of new patients, and how local dental networks are addressing health inequalities for more vulnerable people.
