Greater Manchester flying the flag for Pride in Practice

Summary

Primary care in GM has the most Pride in Practice accredited places.

Primary care services in Greater Manchester account for more than half of all practices benefiting from the Pride in Practice programme.

Figures released this summer show that out of 1,000 practices across the country, 556 are based in Greater Manchester.

Although the majority of these are in general practice, the Pride in Practice programme also supports community pharmacy, dentistry and optometry settings.

Pride in Practice is run by the LGBT Foundation and provides training and accreditation to healthcare professionals, helping them to strengthen and develop primary care services for LGBTQ+ patients.

The programme includes LGBTQ+ inclusion training, an assessment leading to a co-produced action plan, accreditation recognising commitment to LGBTQ+ excellence in healthcare and ongoing support from an account manager from Pride in Practice.

Refresher training is available after 12-18 months to support new staff members and help practices gain further accreditation.

They also offer day-to-day support, information and resources for practices, and can provide information and referrals to LGBTQ+ inclusive services for the community.

The Pride in Practice programme is keen to hear from all aspects of primary care and can adapt the training to suit all healthcare settings. They have conducted some work recently with dental practices as featured in Dentistry.co.uk.
