Oliver McGowan training for primary care

Summary

Fully funded training available for primary care staff.

NHS Greater Manchester has commissioned fully funded Oliver McGowan training for primary care staff.

Care Quality Commission-registered providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.

Participants are invited to register for Tier 1 or Tier 2 training depending on their role:

  • Tier 1: one-hour, interactive online session – best for non-patient-facing roles
  • Tier 2: full day, face-to-face session – best for patient-facing or direct care roles (including those involved in care decisions)

Training is available on various dates in July, August and September and can be booked via the Ticket Tailor online platform.

Please note that participants must have completed the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism e-learning module before registering for Tier 1 or Tier 2 training.

The module may be available via your organisation’s e-learning system, or you can access it via the NHSE elfh Hub

Once completed, the Oliver McGowan training is valid for three years and transferable between healthcare roles and organisations.
