Practice managers and assistant practice managers are urged to register their interest before 30 December.
A group mentorship opportunity is available to practice managers and assistant practice managers working in general practice.
Starting in January 2025, there will be two cohorts running over four sessions. Ideally, participants are asked to attend all four sessions. However, if you’re unable to attend one of the sessions, resources will be made available.
The training course is being delivered by the GP Excellence Programme in collaboration with experienced trainer Luan Stewart.
Luan is a Practice Manager with over 15 years’ experience in general practice and PCN Management. She is a mentor for various NHS providers, an associate for the LMC and a peer appraiser. Luan is also a trainer for areas of practice management.
This opportunity is for:
- New practice managers (ideally under two years in post)
- Assistant practice managers (with a succession plan in place to become a practice manager within the next 18 months)
- Practice managers who have returned recently from maternity or long-term sick leave
Each session will last for 1.5 hours, with up to 12 participants. The sessions will be a safe space for people to speak freely about challenges and topics of interest in an environment where they won’t be disturbed.
Session content:
- Time management – This session will focus on how you can effectively manage your time to complete tasks, delegate responsibilities, and implement strategies for time management in a leadership role.
- Finance – This session will work through finance questions from understanding GMS statements to how to make the practice more profitable.
- HR challenges – This session will provide a supportive environment to address any HR-related questions, ranging from partnership concerns to staff discipline and grievances.
- Building resilience – This session will support you to remain resilient in challenging times including hints and tips.
As a mentee, you will have direct email contact with Luan throughout the programme and will receive handouts and summaries of the sessions.
