Summary
A peer-led general practice event exploring demand, access and the Beyond Core Contract for 2026/27.
General practice clinicians and managers are invited to book their place on this in-person GP Excellence Programme event, taking place on Thursday, 25 June, at the Albert Halls in Bolton.
The event will consist of two half-day masterclasses, with the first session focusing on modern general practice access, and the second focusing on the Beyond Core Contract (BeCCoR) for 2026/27.
Both sessions will be facilitated by Dr Joanna Bircher, Clinical Director for GMPCB’s GP Excellence Programme, and Dr Viren Mehta, Greater Manchester General Practice Provider Board (GPB) member and GP Chief Officer for Viaduct Care CIC, along with the Greater Manchester peer ambassadors.
Attendees are welcome to join for one or both sessions. Lunch will also be provided between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Further details about each session, including the booking link, can be found below:
Masterclass One: ‘The Heart of General Practice – Balancing Demand, Care and Continuity’
Taking place from 9.30am to 12.30pm, this session is designed for anyone working in general practice in a clinical, managerial or administrative capacity who is navigating the everyday realities of modern general practice access.
Across the system, we are all experiencing the same core challenges – balancing demand and capacity, maintaining continuity of care, supporting teams, and making decisions under pressure. Often, these are not problems to solve, but tensions to navigate well.
This practical, peer-led masterclass will create a safe space to:
- Explore the real “tugs of war” in general practice leadership
- Learn from peers about what is working in practice
- Reflect on demand, data and triage approaches
- Consider how to balance efficiency with relationship-based care
There will also be an opportunity for colleagues interested in neighbourhood development to attend a workshop to discuss integrated neighbourhoods.
You will leave with practical ideas you can apply immediately, as well as the opportunity to connect with colleagues facing similar challenges.
Masterclass Two: ‘Turning Targets into Action – BeCCoR Unpacked’
Taking place after lunch from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, this interactive session will:
- Take a detailed look at BeCCoR and how these enhanced targets will influence our work patterns and delivery of care
- Explore practical approaches to improvement, sharing ideas across practices
- Review practice-level data to support informed action
This is a valuable opportunity to come together, understand the changes ahead and develop realistic strategies to maximise both quality and outcomes.
