Primary care providers encouraged to support Make Smoking History campaign

Summary

Separate campaign materials are available for dental practices and the rest of primary care.

A series of videos, posters and social media images has been produced so primary care providers can share smoking cessation messages with patients.

The Greater Manchester Make Smoking History campaign ‘What will you miss?’ is running throughout March, until 12 April.

Co-designed with residents who smoke, the campaign shows happy occasions, like weddings, significant birthdays and picking grandchildren up from school, to reinforce the message that people who smoke can die younger or become seriously ill sooner than those who don’t.

The campaign includes two separate media packs for dental providers and the rest of primary care.

A bespoke QR code within the assets will enable the campaign team to establish who has accessed the information via their dental practice, or other locations such as a GP practice, opticians or pharmacy.

The campaign asks people to download the Smokefree App to access 24/7 support to stop smoking, including a special GM offer for residents to get a free vape and four weeks of vaping liquid.

Residents who want to quit can also find details of their local Stop Smoking service, call the free NHS Stop Smoking Helpline on 0300 123 1044 or ask their healthcare professionals for help and advice.

Greater Manchester Dental Provider Board (DPB) has pledged its support to the campaign to showcase the impact that advertising public health campaigns in dental waiting areas can have.
