Summary
Simple actions can lead to you becoming a ‘fairer practice’.
A toolkit to help general practice address health inequalities has been developed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
Practices are encouraged to register for the Fairer Practice Toolkit and work through a series of actions that complement work already being undertaken to provide equitable health services to patients.
The Fairer Practice Toolkit has been developed by Professor Dominic Patterson, a GP and Fairer Practice lead at the RCGP.
So far, 50 practices have registered for the toolkit nationwide and more than 100 actions have been completed, including identifying a fairer practice lead within the team and identifying a ‘focus patient’ group, which includes patients at most risk of poor access and outcomes.
Practices interested in learning more about the toolkit can benefit from two events in June, where the toolkit will be showcased in more detail:
- ‘The Fairer Practice conference: Turning commitment into action’ takes place on Wednesday, 24 June and is open to anyone working in general practice (clinical and non-clinical)
- ‘Doctors in Deprivation Training Day: Find Your Tribe’, on Tuesday, 30 June, is for clinical roles with an interest in Deep End healthcare
Tackling health inequality is a priority for the Greater Manchester system, under the Fairer Health For All initiative.
