Youth smoking and vaping webinar for dental practitioners

Summary

The session will cover everything dental practitioners need to know about the oral health impact of smoking and vaping on young people.

Dental practitioners are invited to book their place on the ‘Youth smoking and vaping’ webinar taking place on Thursday 18 June, 2026, from 12.15pm to 1.30pm via MS Teams.

The training aims to provide participants with a clear understanding of the prevalence, patterns and drivers of smoking and vaping among children and young people, including commonly used products and behaviours.

It will include current available evidence on the oral health impacts of smoking and vaping in young people, including emerging risks and areas of uncertainty.

It will also clarify the distinction between vaping as a harm‑reduction tool for adult smokers and the specific risks associated with youth vaping, particularly nicotine dependence.

Practitioners will develop awareness of the differences between legal and illicit vapes, including the heightened risks linked to illegal substances. They will also gain insight into how nicotine affects the developing brain and body.

Finally, participants will gain the skills and confidence to signpost individuals and families to appropriate local and national support services where there are concerns about smoking, vaping, nicotine use or wider vulnerabilities.

The training will be delivered by Amy Warburton, Vaping Lead at CGL Eclypse, Charlotte Brien, Nurse Manager from BeSmokeFree Manchester and Tameside, and Alice Causer, Academic Clinical Fellow at Community Dental Services.
